Fostering Process

Fostering really
means changing lives for the better

All you have to do is complete an online form or call us on 0800 009 3084 and we will do a referral with you over the phone.

These referrals take about 15 to 20 minutes and cover basic questions surrounding eligibility. It also gives you an opportunity to ask questions of our team as this is very much a two-way process.

Once you have completed the referral one of our team will then contact you to arrange an initial visit at which both you and your partner (if you have one) will need attend. At that visit we will talk over what is involved in fostering with you and see how fostering would fit within your existing lifestyle. You will also be asked about completing checks for police and medical etc.

If you still want to proceed, you would then be invited to a training course which is covered under our skills to foster page, but consists of six to eight evening sessions. The assessment, which includes the checks, is carried out in tandem with the training.

Finally, the assessments are then presented to the Fostering Panel and we will let you know whether your application has been successful. In BCP most assessments of potential foster carers are completed within six months.

TypesOfFostering
Case Studies

Many people are deterred from fostering as they think that only very particular kinds of people can foster but this simply isn’t true. What we are looking for in BCP from our foster carers is somebody who has the right qualities to give children and young people the secure, caring environment they need.

SupportedAccommodation
Who needs fostering?

Just like our foster carers, our children are all ages and from all backgrounds.  Around two-fifths of children in care are aged 11 to 15 years.  Finding foster carers for teenagers is a key priority for us at BCP Council.

FosteringCommunity
Be a part of our fostering community

Our carers never feel unsupported and have identified that one of the most important aspects to them is a sense of a ‘fostering community’ with a team of experienced professionals and a foster care buddy scheme. If you would like to know more – please call us on 0800 009 3084 or fill in our online form.
