Could you offer a local young person a brighter future?

There are young people in your area who need a little extra support before they feel ready to live on their own. By offering your spare room and some guidance, you can help them build the skills and confidence they need to live independently.

What is Supported Lodgings?
Supported Lodgings means providing a safe and supportive home for young people aged 16-24 as they take their first steps towards independent living. Some of the young people may be care leavers, whilst others may be unaccompanied asylum-seeking. They may need guidance with developing life skills such as cooking or entering education or work.

How is Supported Lodgings different from traditional fostering?

Supported Lodgings offers more flexibility than traditional fostering. The young people are aged 16+, more independent, and hosts provide guidance and support rather than full‑time care.

Who can become a Host?

The people who provide Supported Lodgings are known as ‘Hosts’. To become a Supported Lodgings Host, you’ll need to:

  • have a spare room
  • provide a safe and caring home
  • have time to offer guidance and practical support to a young person
  • be willing to learn and develop new skills

You don’t need previous experience, full training and ongoing support are provided by BCP Council.

What support do Supported Lodgings Hosts receive?

As a Supported Lodgings Host, you’ll receive:

  • An assigned social worker dedicated to supporting you
  • Ongoing, personalised training tailored to your needs
  • An out of hours service for advice when you need it
  • Access to support groups and peer networks
  • Financial payments
What financial support and payments do Hosts recieve?

Our Hosts are paid between £260 and £500 per week for every young person that they support, depending on their needs. They also receive mileage reimbursement and a holiday allowance.
