Support and advice for Special Guardians
Special Guardianship support
Being a Special Guardian can be rewarding and challenging. Every family is different, so the support available will depend on your circumstances and the needs of the child in your care. We'll work with you to make sure you can access the right support at the right time.

The support plan
A Support Plan is created by children’s services as part of the SGO process. This sets out the support available to you and the child, including any practical, financial or therapeutic support. It's an important document, so make sure it reflects the child's needs. The plan should be reviewed every year, or sooner if there are significant changes, such as moving house or changing schools.

Finding the right support can make a real difference.

Assessment for support
If you request support, a member of the Kinship Support Team will start with an initial conversation to understand your situation. If needed, they'll carry out a more detailed assessment to look at the child's needs, your circumstances, and any support that could help your family. A support plan will then be agreed.

How do I access support?
We know it isn't always easy to know what support is available or where to turn. That's why we're here to help you find the right information, advice and services for your family.
You can contact the Family Hub directly, speak to your social worker, or get in touch with Children's First Response if you're worried about a child or need additional support.
